Amazon.com has climbed the ranks to be one of the most profitable fortune 500 e-commerce companies. As a matter of fact, it has come to be known as perhaps the “largest and the most profitable online retailer in the US.” However, despite its large customer base, not everyone is aware of the story behind Amazon.com, its humble beginnings and the plot that it followed to enjoy the success that it has today. This is a shame, for this story can serve as an effective model for present-day companies that are aiming to do well in this field. If you are an online entrepreneur yourself, then it is advisable that you read this story and take what you can from it.
Humble Beginnings
Believe it or not, Amazon started out as a simple online bookstore that mainly aimed to offer more titles than the other bookshops in the market. Unlike the more traditional stores that target this niche, this site did well in offering people more choices that they may use to satisfy the bookworms in then.
Signs Of Success
Mainly targeting the book-loving niche, Amazon started off selling products that are related to the hobbies of their normal clientele. Seeing how offering various products have positively affected their sales profit, the site started to experiment by selling other products as well. From being a simple online bookstore, Amazon has come to branch out more and more and to offer a wide variety of products and services, thereby kicking it off to be the highly successful online retailer that it is at present time.
The Process of Refinement
The spirit of adventure that this simple online bookstore mainly thrived in propelled it to be the very successful company that it is now. As more and more people visited and purchased from their site, Amazon saw the need to refine a delivery system that will allow their clients to receive their purchases in the least amount of time possible. At present, clients may now have their purchases delivered straight to their homes within days. This completes the online nature of the transaction for it allows people to get their hands in their services without having to leave the comfort of their own homes.
Continuous Improvement
To further improve the quality of services that they offer their clients, Amazon is in the process of launching loyalty programs that will give their most loyal customers’ lives much easier. For one, enlisting for the loyalty program will allow one to enjoy discounts on shipping. This is what sets Amazon aside from the rest of the online retailers in the field. While other retailers focus more on improving the interface of their site and in widening the offers that they have for their clients, Amazon focuses more on establishing better ties with their customers. This gives its client a more satisfactory feeling when they go about their transactions and prompts them to buy more products off of the site by giving them high quality services that they enjoy every single time. In a relatively short period, Amazon has become one of the greatest online success stories, and by the looks of it, will continue to innovate and improve going forward.
